This fall brought us the new release from Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, namely Know Better Learn Faster. Last year's We Brave Bee Stings and All was a fun romp (one that i just recently got turned onto), but Know Better is just...well, better. It's a fantastic thing to me when a band can generate the energy of a punk band without playing at punk speeds and TGDSD do this expertly.
The two singles off this album are each so distinct; the 50's-dance-craze-meets-modern-club call to hip opening on "When We Swam" and the brilliantly-integrated strings and throaty vocals of the title track.
