Markly Morrison of
Brown Interior (Olympia's premier cassette tape label) has been working on an epic
Carter Family tribute album. All recorded to handheld cassette recorder- while out on tour, in bands' kitchens, on front porches, etc. The result is something like John Fahey making his own 78's, scratching them up and placing them in bins of antique 78's; modern indie bands transcending their particular era of music.
He just created a
website for the project and announced a release date of early 2010.
Here's a few of the songs he's previewing from the album.
LAKE- Lonesome ValleyGolden Boots- What Would You Give (In Exchange for Your Soul)Peter Stampfel- The Titanic(Peter's from 60's psych groups like the Holy Modal Rounders and the Fugs)
